How to Choose an Automatic Revolving Door: GS8500 Guide
An automatic revolving door is usually chosen for a busy, image-sensitive entrance such as an office building, shopping mall, hotel or exhibition center. The decision that shapes everything else is size: how much opening your building has and how many people must pass through it. This guide uses the published data for the GS8500 Automatic Revolving Door to help you narrow the options before you ask for a quotation.
Start with the space, then the passage width
Measure the clear space at the entrance first. The outer diameter has to fit that space, while the passage width decides how comfortably people move through. A larger door gives a wider passage but needs more floor area, so a tight lobby may set the limit before traffic does.
| Inner diameter (mm) | Outer diameter (mm) | Passage width (mm) | Sliding door width (mm) |
|---|
| 3000 | 3220 | 1380 | 1330 |
| 3200 | 3420 | 1480 | 1430 |
| 3600 | 3820 | 1680 | 1630 |
| 4200 | 4420 | 1980 | 1930 |
| 4800 | 5020 | 2280 | 2230 |
All five standard sizes have a passage height of 2200 mm and a cornice height of 340 mm. Check your ceiling height against both, not just the passage. Custom sizes are available on request if your opening falls between these options.
Decide on the two-wing layout
A two-wing door with a display case is offered for inner diameters of 3600–4800 mm. Without a display case, the range is 3000–3600 mm. If you want the display case, a size below 3600 mm is therefore not an option. If you are unsure, send your floor plan and ask which layout suits it.
Match the door to how the building operates
- Quiet periods: ask how the idle and low-speed rotation modes would fit your opening hours.
- Moving large items or groups: ask how the automatic sliding mode would work at your entrance.
- Emergencies: the door supports an emergency evacuation mode. Confirm with your local fire authority what your building requires, and share that requirement when you ask for a quotation.
- Mixed users: anti-pinch safety sensors monitor pedestrian movement, which matters where children and elderly visitors use the entrance.
Check the details that change a project
- Power: published data is AC 220V / 50Hz, with a 1200W power rating. If your site supply differs, raise it early.
- Glass: 8 mm tempered glass is listed as optional, so state your glazing requirement.
- Finish: multiple façade finishes are available, so say what your architect has specified.
- Components: the main motor is listed as Germany LENZE, the sliding door unit as Germany dormakaba, and the safety sensors as OMRON, P+F and Panasonic.
